The type of information we collect

We occasionally collect the following information:

  • Vehicle registration marks (VRM), for example when users submit their VRM using our online tools,

  • Email addresses, if you subscribe to a mailing list, download a report, fill out a sign-up form, or email us, and

  • Name, where you have filled in a form to join a mailing list or use a product or service.

  • Phone numbers, Job titles, usernames and contact preferences if you create a members account.

The information we hold, and why

We only receive information that you submit to us, either by contacting us or by filling in a form on our website. We hold your data for the purposes of achieving our mission to accelerate the transition to electric vehicles. This includes carrying out research into consumer attitudes towards electric vehicles, electric vehicle uptake, vehicle usage in the UK, and connected activities. Where we collect an email address or name, we may contact you in relation to the product or service you were using. 

How we keep your information secure

Data security matters to everyone, and we will treat your data with the utmost care, taking the appropriate steps to protect it. Access to your personal data is password protected, and we regularly monitor our systems for possible vulnerabilities and attacks.

Retention Periods

If we have received your data in line with this policy, we reserve the right to hold it indefinitely. This is to aid continuity and so that we can view any historic context which may have bearing on subsequent support mail, even if members of the support staff change.

How to unsubscribe, access your data, or request that we remove you from our records

Simply email privacy@newautomotive.org and we will provide you with an overview of the data we hold on you. Provided there is no legitimate reason for us to continue holding your data, we are happy to destroy our records of your data.

Your data protection rights

Under data protection law, you have rights including:

  • Your right of access - You have the right to ask us for copies of your personal information. 

  • Your right to rectification - You have the right to ask us to rectify personal information you think is inaccurate. You also have the right to ask us to complete information you think is incomplete. 

  • Your right to erasure - You have the right to ask us to erase your personal information in certain circumstances. 

  • Your right to restriction of processing - You have the right to ask us to restrict the processing of your personal information in certain circumstances. 

  • Your right to object to processing - You have the the right to object to the processing of your personal information in certain circumstances.

  • Your right to data portability - You have the right to ask that we transfer the personal information you gave us to another organisation, or to you, in certain circumstances.

  • You are not required to pay any charge for exercising your rights. If you make a request, we have one month to respond to you.
